Ulli, Decentralized, LostBoyz and 4 others like this!

Setting animation speed using only slider 2. I'm new to GLB-animation so bear with me but I found this function real good and easy to use once I understood it.

The foundation of making this easy is that you need to know how the animation of the model works as regards to what the animation does in one complete loop.

You can easily view a complete animation loop in BluffTitler by the use of the "Animation speed" property. Set Slider 1 to zero and move Slider 2 from 0 to 1, that will take you through a full loop of the model's animation.

The model in this example is a flying dragon and is about as good an example as I could find. One loop is 660 frames long but more importantly for understanding this is that in that one loop, the dragon flies straight and flaps it's wings four times.

In the property of "Animation speed", if you set Slider 1 to 0, you will have full control of how far into a loop the model animates just by using Slider 2.

The rest here assumes that Slider 1 is set to 0 at all times.

Myself view the number in Slider 2 as a percentage of the entire animation loop. For this Dragon model, if you set Slider 2 to 0 at 0:00 and to 1 at the end of the show, the dragon will flap it's wings 100% of the loop, i.e. 4 times.

If you set Slider 2 to 0 at 0:00 and to 0.75 at the end of the show, the dragon will flap it's wings 75% of the loop, i.e. 3 times. 0.5 is 50% and will get you 2 flaps, and so forth.

If you want to have the animation run forward all the time, all keys have to have a number that is larger than the prior "Animation speed" key.

If the Slider 2 setting is equal to the prior key, the animation stops. If you use the Bezier spline effect, it slows down real nice.

If the Slider 2 setting is lower than the prior key, the animation will reverse. I put that to good use in the Dragon animation, it slows down at the end and sort of backups to hover.

! On reversing: Be aware that there is a slight anomaly in reversing an animation. You can see two very slight "hickups" in the video, they occur at about 5.5 and 6 seconds in. If you look at the media files, that is where the "Animation speed" Slider 2 keys are set lower than the prior keys, i.e. the animation reverses. I have tried this with multiple models and I get the same result

Edit: As Decentralized pointed out, thanks, you can (have to) set Slider 2 to numbers larger than 1 to get the effects in this show. You do this manually.

Whatever. The best way to have all this make good sense is to download and open the show. Choose the "Animation property" and note the settings for each key.

The show effect is "Bezier spline" and it works best but try "Constant speed" as well to see the details of what the keys do, the animation going into reverse is more marked with the Constant speed effect.

I have not really done any animations before and this was a good way to learn, I hope it made sense.

Another very good thing that is new in BluffTitler since the last time I worked with it and that is most excellent is the model property called "FX Double sided". A very loooong story about 3D modeling, tangents and such but it solved an issue, not of Blufftitlers fault, with importing the Dragon where the wings would not show when looking at them from underneath. That was easily solved by setting the "FX Double sided" to 1. Set it to 0 and you'll see what I mean. The effect is most obvious when the dragon hover at the end.

Yes, the 2nd slider of the ANIMATION SPEED prop is VERY powerful. Great tutorial, thank you!

Thank you very much Michiel, it turned out very easy to use. I also very much appreciate the new (to me at least) "FX Double sided" property. Great work.

Very COOL!

Good example. Thanks.
I had some time to play with it the other day. Works great for starting the animation where you want, and ending it where you want.
If people are wondering you can set slider 2 to a higher number than 1, if you want the animation to run longer.

Many thanks Decentralized, that's a very good point that I should've put in the text.
