Just learned this yesterday from Michiel in a reply in another post here. I figured it's of interest to many so I made this post to "bring it up".
To save a lot of time when learning how someone elses show is put together, try this.
"hold down the <Ctrl> and <Shift> keys to render only the active layer. When holding down those keys and stepping through the layers dropdown with the up and down cursor keys you can quickly find the layer you are looking for."
There could be situations that does not have you able to scroll the layers with the keyboard when trying this. If so, just hold down the <Ctrl> and <Shift>, click twice on the layer dropdown and you're there.
It's a most excellent tip that I have used a few times already today. It also goes to show you that it's very worthwhile to check out the keyboard shortcut page on your own now and then :)
