I found L3DT 16.5 a freeware landscape maker. It's not very sophisticated, but it's very simple to use.
It's a pity the software is outdated. Maybe a change for Michiel to make it part of the Bix software family?

Thank you for the info. L3DT has been added to the list of apps that can generate height maps for use in the landscape layer. Those are all excellent apps, no need to add another one:
