The particles in version 15.3.0.2, launched today, can be sorted. To do that, mark the SORT ELEMENTS checkbox in the LAYER > ACTIVE LAYER PROPERTIES.... dialog.
This is important when the particle layer uses a transparent texture. In the above screenshot you can see that without sorting, ugly aliasing artifacts appear at the edges of the textures.
Sorting particles is only necessary when using alpha blending. When using additive blending, which pretty much all particle layers do, they do not have to be sorted.
