LostBoyz, Jeep35, vincent and 9 others like this!

Here's an effect that morphs your picture into a turkish map origami.

Apply the effect to a picture layer (choose MEDIA > CHANGE EFFECT...) and animate the FX MORPHING STAGE property.

The effect uses 2 textures: one for the front and one for the back. You can set those textures in the same MEDIA > CHANGE EFFECT... dialog.

Thanks to kf_daddy for the idea. I hope this effect is useful for your project.

UPDATE: the effect is now part of the installer. You can find it here: Effects\Picture\TurkishMap

Thank you all!

Filip, to create you own effects you need the developer version, which has not yet been released. But I have to warn you that creating effects will never be easy: it's similar to software development.

crispin, no you can't adjust the folds with this effect.

The effect has been updated. Although it is physically impossible, it can now handle non-square pictures. The gaps and gone, the z-fight is gone, the effect file is smaller and runs a bit faster.

Click on the DOWNLOAD MEDIA FILES button to download the new version.

Thank you for your feedback!

michiel,

That is amazing! I just downloaded the file and you've done what others said was nearly impossible to do. And in just a few days. Thank you and it will definitely see some use.

The attached video was the first one I viewed on YT and the lady is using what looks like a standard 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. So it is possible to use non-square pictures although I prefer the square one for it's symmetry. In the video, the diagonals don't go to the corners so the four corner sections are rectangles, not squares.

Also, I didn't receive any email notices of your replies. Checked my account settings and I don't see a place to say I want to receive notices. Am I missing something somewhere?

thanks again,
Joe

Thank you Joe. Glad to hear you like the effect!

The diagonals in the video indeed don't go to the corners. They simply extend the parts outside the middle square.

The BluffTitler effect uses a dirty trick that keeps the diagonals going to the corners. You will need pretty stretchable paper to do this in reality, lot's of things are easier in the virtual world ;)
