jopin and Yousef like this!

The Voxel layer has been designed for medical visualizations, but we recently discovered that it can be used for a lot of other things as well.

This FX uses the voxel layer to display the algebraic surface known as Goursat's Surface.

To use the effect:
-choose LAYER > ADD LAYER > ADD VOXEL LAYER... and choose a random picture (it is ignored by this effect)
-press the CHANGE EFFECT... button and select this GoursatSurface.FX file
-play around with the FX properties

All the above shapes can be created by adjusting the FX properties.

This effect requires BluffTitler version 8.0.8 and a graphics card that supports shader 2.0 or higher.

Here's the Wikipedia article about monsieur Goursat.

He died in 1936. I can't understand how he managed to discover such wonderful mathematics without the aid of a computer. Such a pity he never saw his discoveries as we can see them now: morphing and rotating in realtime, in full colour on our computer screen.

Wow man. I like this.

Yousef, maybe you can find some informations for Mathsketch in Goursat's links...

Hi Vincent,
Mathsketch draws lines, what Michiel did draws surfaces so they do different things. What would be interesting is to take what Michiel did and apply different surface equation to them like shell for example. Michiel can comment on how easy is this. The link will show what I mean.

Lines and surfaces are indeed different things.

For some surfaces it will be as easy as entering the formula in the FX file. Nice thing is that you can see the result immediately. Compare this to the pre-computer area Goursat lived in...
