Added a picture layer - Style Cylinder.

The Morphing Stage property controls cylinder bend/wrap amount but only left and right, eg. to wrap around an upright tree. How do I control the top and bottom wrap/bend to wrap around a horizontal pipe?

Maybe try the: \Media\Effects\Picture\Plane2Roll.cfx

Thanks, I tried Plane2Roll but it only rolls from one side, not evenly like the cylinder style does.
Also tried Plane2Cylinder but it only wraps in the wrong orientation.

I would:
-use a picture layer
-select the CYLINDER style
-set the ROTATION prop to (0, 0, 90)
-animate the MORPHING STAGE prop

Perhaps adding a feature where the Morphing Stage 2nd slider adjusts the other orientation?

This will cause confusion because the 2 sliders can't be used at the same time. Adding an FX ROTATION prop to the Picture\Plane2Cylinder effect is maybe a better way.

OK, thanks. Maybe a slider negative <-> positive to change orientation?

Could you please test this effect? I think it does what you want when you set the FX HORIZONTAL AXIS prop to 1:
