would it be possible to create a "clip" effect with a non-linear but irregular edge as in the picture? I know that there is "FX clip plane smooth" but it would not be nice to be able to use an irregular clip effect on photos and text?
I also know that there is a mask effect, but a clip effect with an uneven edge would be very nice.
thanks a lot.

If the target is a picture, you can use the GradientWipe effect. Clear the 2nd texture and place the clip shape in the 3rd texture.

The installer comes with a demo:
Picture\TransitionGradientWipe.bt

Thanks, and for text ?

For 3D text it's best to use the Text\TextClip effect.

Otherwise gaps appear.

Thanks Michiel,
now I understand the difference.
My idea was just to create an irregular border to destroy the image when I do the sandstorm effect.
but the irregular cut on the image is not fixed can be clipped from left to right to make the image disappear, so the particles start from different points of the image and not from a regular "clip" cut. I use the colourmap layer to optain that.
I see that textclip work good also in picture ( the third dimension is maintained, while if I use clips the image becomes flat )
