I know a few easy ways to make blinking text:
1. Use the flare.cfx effect and set te FX flicker period slider to a value >0
2. Use the Oscillator.cfx effect and play with the settings
3. Use the VJ effect (in the Layer menu on top of the page) and choose the Property: Transparency and set the Sensitivity to 1. And to set the intensity of the flickering with the Oscillator value.
4. You also could use the Vj effect with the Size Property Sensitivity -1,-1,-1 and the Wave form on "Pulse".
