Is there a simple .x file (thumbnail) viewer, to browse the .x 3d model files?
Yes, that would be nice. I also wonder if there's a way to make Windows show thumbnails of EPS files.
TGA and DDS are also on my wish list.
Notice that BluffTitler shows thumbnails of TGA and DDS files in the EDIT > CHANGE ALL TEXTURES... and MEDIA > CHANGE TEXTURE... dialogs.

I use P3dO Explorer.
For some file types you will have to click on each thumbnail (while in P3dO Explorer) one time to get the thumbnail to display properly. After that they will appear, as long as you leave the default setting for thumbnails (Tools>Options>Thumbnails) within P3dO Explorer.
I have some files (.x and otherwise) that it will NOT display the proper thumbnail for, and I am not sure why this is.
It DOES display thumbnails for TGA and DDS as well.

There is a Windows Shell Extension called SageThumbs.
This extension enables viewing thumbnails for several additional file types directly in Windows Explorer.
It DOES display thumbnails for EPS, DDS, and TGA files. It does NOT display thumbnails for .X files.
The program is FREE and is available to download from Cherubicsoft.com. To display EPS files you will also need to download and install (from Cherubicsoft - on the same page as SageThumbs) the AFPL Ghostscript program (also free).
According to users on the SourceForge.net site if you are using Windows 10:
Right click the SageThumbs installer then select Properties, Compatibility, Windows 7, Tick - Run this program as an administrator, THEN Run the installer.

Mystic thumbs does the same, but no .x files.

That is where P3dO Explorer comes in.
I use the paid version, but I believe that the FREE version will display the .X files thumbnails as I outlined above.
