NextPreviousHomeUsing the Traced Picture Layer

I brought a photo into the photo layer and need to cut an image out of it to use in an intro clip. Anyone know how to do that? The program appears to be able to do that but I can't find any instruction on how to use that function.

Hi, MrGruntHunter
you can crop the photo with efeito'Clip'
and adjust the properties:
*FX Clip Plane Position
*FX Clip Plane Rotation

Or maybe the answer is: use a transparent PNG file:

I think I need to first change my question to "What exactly does the 'Trace Picture Layer' really do or what is it for?"

It's about turning a 2D picture into a 3D model.

First 20 seconds of this video is about the traced picture layer:

Yes, that's what I saw and was under the impression I could do all of that inside of BluffTitler and what I was expecting to do with photo I have. I wanted to 'cut' the front of the ATV, at the bottom of the photo, out and use it over a different background. The only other program I have to work with is Corel Draw 9.

I'm sure you can use Corel Draw 9 to create transparent PNGs.

You can import this PNG in BluffTitler by choosing LAYER > ADD LAYER > ADD PICTURE LAYER.... This creates a picture layer.

Or by choosing LAYER > ADD LAYER > ADD TRACED PICTURE LAYER... This creates a traced picture layer, as demonstrated in the video.

OK, I was able to load the image ( a single frame capture out of a GoPro video) into Corel Draw 9 and save it as a .png file and also bring it into BluffTitler by choosing LAYER > ADD LAYER > ADD PICTURE LAYER.

It looks like I'm going to have to learn a lot more about Layers and how to create and use them. I still don't know how to 'cut out' just the front of the ATV out of the picture to use by itself. I just happen to have a copy of PhotoShop Elements 5 but it says for Windows XP so I don't know yet if it will run on my new computer with Windows 8.1.

More to learn. Many thanks for your help and patience with this old man LOL .

Michiel,
I think things are slowly sinking in as to what I am seeing with all of the Gallery videos I have been watching. Am I correct in assuming that everyone is creating all of the artwork in other programs then bringing them into BluffTitler as Picture Layers and/or Textures to add animation and effects to? All along I was thinking everything I was seeing was created inside of BluffTitler. With this question you probably now know the cause of many of my weird questions and frustration as to why I couldn't do the things I've been trying to do. :-)

Yes this is correct.

You create your pictures in a paint application and bring them to life in BluffTitler.

It appears I stumbled in through the 'back' door' on all of this :-) I initially was just looking at a way to rotate text a full 360 degrees in Sony Movie Studio and came across BluffTitler. When I saw what everyone was doing I thought it was all being done inside of BluffTitler. I'll have to be satisfied with just animating text it looks like ha ha. I still like your program and may have to buy one of your template packages if I decide to get more upscale in my videos. Sure enjoy seeing what everyone is doing. I greatly admire everyone's talent, that's for sure. Right now I just want to create a very subtle, and very toned down, intro and outro.

I might be trying to do something that's not possible but can I create animated text in BluffTitler, like on some sort of transparent background, where I could take it into a video editor like Sony Movie Studio and overlay it on top of a different video? I tried exporting it as a movie and can bring it into SMS but I get the text on a background blocking out the video I'm overlaying it on.

You can export your video with transparency info by selecting one of the WITH TRANSPARENCY options in the FILE > EXPORT AS MOVIE... dialog.

Note, this is a PRO feature so it's not available in the EASY version.

Here's a screenshot of how it works in Sony Vegas. Maybe it works similar in Sony Movie Studio:

I have your Pro version,

I did the EXPORT AS MOVIE and selected the "Uncompressed AVI with Transparency" option.

My other settings were:
FPS: 29.97

ANTIALIASING QUALITY: Software AA High Quality

ADVANCED: include last frame

Sony Vegas and Movie Studio work the same way.

Great!

michiel, 9 years ago

But it's not showing up as being transparent in Sony Movie Studio. I still have a black background.
???

MrGruntHunter, 9 years ago

First thing we have to find out is if the exported video contains transparency info.

Easiest way to do that is to play it in BluffTitler. Create a new video layer by choosing LAYER > ADD LAYER > ADD VIDEO LAYER... You can test the alpha channel by placing another layer behind it, for example a plasma layer: choose LAYER > ADD LAYER > ADD PLASMA LAYER...

If this works, the video is correct.
