NextPreviousHomeUNDERSTANDING COLOR MAPS

I'm not sure I fully understand how COLOR maps work. I see for instance the color map for the robotic arm which consists of a few small squares and a larger background color.

Michiel had a nice article about Specular and Cube maps which makes sense to me but for the life of me I can't get my head wrapped around Color Maps. For instance, let's say I didn't want blue around the joints of a robotic arm. Would I open the color map in a graphic program and replace the tiny "blue" square with say Red or whatever? Then I'm wondering, how does bluff know to pick that color out of the other squares.

Sorry if this is a lame question but I've never found the correct info about color maps in relation Bluff.

If there's an article or link somewhere or if someone has a little time to explain, I would be very very grateful and I thank you in advance!

I tried to explain the working of the robotic arm layer colourmap in this post:

I hope this will do!

BluffTitler knows which part of the texture must be used to paint which part of the model because this information is stored in the 3D model file. Every point in the model not only has a 3D position (x,y,z) but also a 2D texture position (u,v). This texture position (also called "texture coordinates" or "uv coordinates") is the horizontal and vertical position in the texture.

Here's the Wikipedia page about texture mapping:

And here's is the colourmap info in the BluffTitler user guide:

diffusemap

THANK YOU to ALL for kindly extending a hand.

I shall indeed be reading and exploring all suggestions.
I just needed to wrap my head around the concept in order
to further understand and expand my Bluff manipulations and developments.

Michiel,
I've already been able to use Bluff in a variety of ways for:
ads
adverts
advertisements
spots
commercials
cuts
dubs
15s
30s

Very...great software! 😜😜😜

THANKS TO ALL
