Ulli, komies, SMSgtRod and 6 others like this!
I've been wrestling with BT for 3 years now and struggling beyond belief. I created this INTRO for a friend who was up in a cabin in Tennessee last month for a week. I recorded video of their stay and wanted an intro for it. I give up! This is my final product after struggling with it for over 3 weeks now. There still are some things I can't figure out;
1.) At around the 3-4 sec mark the trees on the left appear to change texture as I am zooming in on the cabin.
2.) I have tried to make both of the snow particle layers identical to have the snow start showing up as the last city (Gatlinburg) appears but I can't seem to have the snow on the Gatlinburg text stay consistent with the Dottie text.
3.) I really appreciate all of the help you guys have been trying to give me with creating smoke coming out of the exhaust of the vehicle driving across the screen. I have tried the ESP file route but I just don't understand what I'm doing and for the life of me I can't make it work. The only way I've managed to get the effect I have is by adding a smoke particle layer and spending ALL DAY trying to get it into some appearance of the shape it deeds to be and then literately hours getting it synced with the tailpipe of the vehicle.
Bottom line; this is my feeble attempt at creating a BT show from scratch. Maybe someone can find a use for it :-)
Thank you komies for the insight with the background and the rotatetowardscamera effect and also you vincent for your help with the smoke (sorry but I'm a complete failure with that one) :-(
4.) I need a lesson on how to upload a show to the forum so anyone can download it to use. Unfortunately the background image itself is 4mb in size and I see were limited to only 500kb file size to upload.
OK, it's on my YouTube Channel as 'unlisted' now. This is the only way I know how to post it on the forum. If anyone wants a copy just send me an email request to MrGruntHunter@gmail.com and I'll email you back with the zipped file (it's 7.1mg in size).
Well done. Nice animations, particles and parallax effect!
Thanks for sharing your work in this community ?

Nice show Mike !
1) For the problem at (3-4 sec) you must change property DEPTH BIAS on each tree layer with the problem (try a 1000 or -1000 value)
2) Your smoke is not bad
3) For snow on text maybe try different values of timelife, effect size, particle size
4) For my show :
- there is an eps (invisible called SMOKE GENRATOR) placed at the top of stack so that we believe that the smoke goes out of stack
- particles layer (smoke) is attached to this EPS
- I add another EPS as target for the smoke and move it and resize it to simulate movement of smoke due to loco movement. IMPORTANT : you must verify that # of TARGET LAYER of PARTICLE layer corresponds to this last EPS layer number

3-4 second mark.... Good old Depth Bias.... komies has been educating me on that.
I am now the resident expert....LOL

SMSgtRod, I think you may be a lot further ahead in all of this than I am. If you want, shoot me an email sometime and we'll see how close together we are. :-)

Vincent, Adjusting the Depth Bias to -1,000 did the trick. I don't technically understand just what Depth Bias is or what it's doing but I know now what to adjust if I have this problem again sometime. Well, hopefully I won't forget. :-)
Just curious, are there any circumstances where it shouldn't be used?
MrGruntHunter, 6 years ago
Mike, generally occurs when 2 layers are very close (3rd slider pos / z value), that produces a kind of sparkling or appearance/disappearance of layer or a part of layer when camera moves.
vincent, 6 years ago
Thank You Vincent. That helps me understand much better.
Perhaps Michiel can add some more insight as my curiosity is that if Depth Bias adjustment is required to correct that problem then why not just have BT default the Depth Bias to -1000 or does that present other issues that I am not aware of?
MrGruntHunter, 6 years ago
Mike, the problem is that sometimes you need a positive value, in fact depends on the relative postion.
You'll find more informations in this post
In the help i found : depth bias can be used to solve sorting problems.
i think it's very technical.... personaly i try different values until that solves the problem without really understand whys and wherefores.

That helps Vincent. I remember seeing that post previously but didn't really understand what they were talking about until I experienced my problem with the trees in my little project. Thanks to you I have all of that corrected now. Unfortunately the final file size is just to large to post and share with anyone. Thanks for all the help.
