I'm just downloaded BixPack 3 and trying to modify the Holiday Palm template 24 to look like a desert scene with a cactus instead of a palm tree. The palm tree has a shadow to it and I want to create the same effect for the cactus I want to insert. How do I do that? I've downloaded a .png image of a cactus for starters. A friend of mine just returned from a cross-country RV trip so I'm going to also add a cartoonish RV image. I changed the title text and it's retaining the shadow of the new text just fine.
shadows come from the light so, you set shadow on the light layer (shadow intensity). Note that shadows require lot of CPU usage and it's possible your show plays jerky, but not problem in rendered video.

If you are only interested in shadows on the floor you can use projected shadows. This is super fast:

Michiel, Does the image need to be some sort of 3D file? I imported a .png image of a cactus but am not getting a shadow from it. There is a Shadow Plane layer already, which I assume is creating the text shadow.

i think solid objects (eps, text, model) produce better shadows.
Maybe your problem comes from png as indicated in the Michiel's link :
....Projected shadows can't handle transparent textures and morphing effects....
If you want i have an example with sketch cactus

Thanks for the reply Vincent. That makes sense. Now I'll have to go figure out how to make a model of some cactus LOL.

MrGruntHunter, just post a link at the same time you on my previous post
problem : spikes don't appear in shadow (as explained by Michiel for stencil shadows)
i add a 2nd example with projected shadow where we can see spikes but a ground with a little transparency is required to have fake shadows on the ground and when light moves shadow movement is less realistic.

I just did a search for " Cactus .eps cartoon image files " and found some but when I try and insert an EPS layer and import the image BT says it can't handle the file. What am I doing wrong?

User guide:
BluffTitler has limited EPS support. It only imports filled shapes built out of lines and curves from uncompressed, unoptimized EPS files.
You can download Vincents show
You can make them in Bixangelo as a stick figure and use circle style with pen progression property.

Probably the easiest way is to:
-delete the 3D model of the palm
-add a traced picture layer using a transparent picture of a cactus (choose LAYER > ADD LAYER > ADD TRACED PICTURE LAYER...)
As you can see this creates a 3D model out of a picture and the shadows are rendered ok.
I used the PNG picture from this page:

Heyyyyyy ... that worked Michiel, and that's the same template I'm trying to use.
