is there a reason why the z axis on the container layer is set to 500 ?

The value of (0,0,500) has been chosen in analogy with the default position of the text and picture layers.
The default camera position is (0,0,0) so this places new text, picture and container layers right in front of you, where you can see it!
Realize that it's only a default value. You can set it to any other value you like.

Is because when attaching an object to the container it jumps back and is much smaller,
I know that can I place it where I want.

I see 2 solutions:
1) use a default position of (0,0,0) when a layer is attached to a container and (0,0,500) if not.
2) always use a default position of (0,0,0) and set the default camera position to (0,0,-500)
