I have BluffTitler version 10.2 on my Windows 7 PC and , with a view to upgrading, have successfully installed version 12.3.0.1
In version10.2 I was able to set the resolution of a show to 1920 by 1080 with 50% window size and , using the option in the settings, have that as a default resolution (ie. I could close the program and later reopen it and the resolution would still be 1920 by 1080).
In version 12 the method seems to have changed and from searching the User Guide and questions posted on your website, I understand I can set the Home Page with a default resolution which should achieve what I am after. Consequently, on the show that was opened when I started BluffTitler, I set the resolution to 1920 by 1080 and clicked OK. I then copied and pasted the name, ( which in this case was: c:\Program Files\BluffTitler\Media\Shows\Model\Bix2.bt) into the Home page entry line on the General options tab and clicked OK. However after closing and then reopening the show , the resolution had changed. It isn't clear to me whether this is because I am in evaluation mode or whether it's because I am doing it incorrectly
Also, to keep a default resolution, would I need to save the show after setting the resolution? (something I was unable to do in evaluation mode). I would be really grateful for your guidance as the settings are often the hardest part for me
There are 2 resolutions:
This is the size of the preview window: the resolution the show is rendered in when editing. You can change this resolution by resizing the preview window with your mouse. It is stored in the general settings file every time you close the app and is not changed when you open a show.
This is the resolution of the video file BluffTitler generates when you choose FILE > EXPORT AS VIDEO... You set this resolution by choosing FILE > SET SHOW RESOLUTION... It is stored in the .BT show file and is changed every time you open a show.
Since version 12 those 2 resolutions are independent. This is very convenient because you can edit in any size you want without worrying about the export resolution.
I'm confused by your "default resolution" concept. What should it do? When should it be used? How should you set it? Where should it be stored?

Thank you for your reply. I obviously will need to get used to the various differences in the two versions. I was looking at some previous questions and noted your advice as follows:
"You can set the home page in the SETTINGS > OPTIONS... dialog.
This is the show that is loaded when you start BluffTitler.
When you make sure this show uses your favorite resolution, BluffTitler now starts up in this resolution."
How do I actually set the home page. Is it as I tried (as above) and can this be done in evaluation mode, please. I would be very grateful for your advice

Yes this can be done in evaluation mode. Simply paste the URL of the show or click on the USE CURRENT button.
But this only sets the resolution at startup. When you load a new show, the resolution is taken from that new show. My guess is that you want to keep the resolution. Is this true? And can you explain why this is important?

As I have only just installed this new version, it isn't clear to me at this stage whether the ratio of all the shows at startup are 16 by 9 and I suppose the more familiar a program is when you are using it, the more one can use it with confidence. Especially as it is quite a while since I did any video editing.
I would be grateful if you could tell me where the USE CURRENT button is located

Here it is.
But I don't think that's what you are looking for. I think the answer to your question is: no you can't set a default resolution. This would require a few extra buttons in this dialog.

Thank you for your patience. I'm sure you are right and that I probably don't need this anyway. And thank you for pointing out where the buttons are. For some reason, my Options window doesn't fully open so that instead of wide rectangular buttons, they are just shown as squares (see attached) and I am unable to expand it. Perhaps this is down to evaluation mode.
I've been looking through the User Guide and once I've familiarised myself with the changes in the layout I think I will find it easier than the previous version as there are some lovely examples

No, that's a bug. My guess is that you are using a bigger than standard font size, and dialogs with tabs don't understand this. Maybe if we manage to reproduce this issue we can find a workaround. Luckily the left part of the buttons are visible so they are functional.
About the default resolution, is this a request, a question or a bug report?

I think from memory I chose to have a slightly larger font size when I first configured Windows 7. So far I haven't found any other incomplete window. And once the settings are to one's liking, it is not likely to be used much. But it explains why I couldn't find this button
Re the default resolution, I normally work in 1920 by 1080 and so when I used BluffTitler in the past (v.10), because I had ticked the General Options Settings: "Open BluffTitler in the same resolution as when closed" shows always opened with this resolution. I assumed that this option might still be available but perhaps in a different place. It would be nice to have it but I appreciate that it might not be viable unless a number of others felt the need for it

Victory! I managed to reproduce the issue in Windows 10 by setting the font size to 150%. It was hidden in the right click on desktop > display settings dialog.
Indeed, the only BluffTitler dialog that can't handle the bigger font size is the options dialog. Now that it's reproducible it's easy to fix, thanks!
I'm now going to work on the default resolution enigma.
