Hi guys, needing some advice if you would, I'm trying out Sketchup just now and when converting the models with 3D rad to directx the whole image just looses the richness of the colours after been converted.
I've tried using the specularity tab but that just doesn't do the trick, it's hard to explain but when I see Dani's and the other contributors 3d models the colours and textures just stand out and really hit you in the face.
So the question is, should I stick with Sketchup or can anyone advise a better software that I can import models into BT.
Thanks for any help that you can offer.
Paul.
Thats because we have blufftitler to give each part of a model a different texture and / or colour setting.
Tips:
When you make a model in a third party modeler as sketchup or blender, focus on the form, and which parts need a different colour / texture.
Group the elements that you think can use the same colour and or textures (saves time in blufftitler).
When you import a model do this in a container (or later attach to a container),
Place, move, animate the model in blufftitler, until you are content with the motion.
Make sure your model is now in a container.
Goto to the model and press CTRL-U, This proces is one-way!!!
This will turn your model into submodels (that you have grouped)
This way you can give every submodel its own colour, texture and effect.
The reason why it is in a container so you can move, rotate change size of all the submodels within that container as one model.
When your model has alot of submodels, but alot needs the same colour, texture or effect apply this to the model before CTRL-U, now you need only change the remaining submodels (timer saver)
Also to get Dani like colours, type in a number higher then 255.
Have fun

Thank you so much, a little light bulb came on when I read your explanation... thanks.
Anyone know of any sites where I can grab some free .x models to use as making my own is way, way in the future for me.
Thanks again.

.x model are Legacy, DirectX 11 no longer supports .X files. Microsoft has terminated all support for it. Website's where you can download in .x format are very very scarce.
Blender is free and can convert multiple formats to .x
code.blender.org...
For .x models you need to do the following first.
blender.stackexchange.com...
And here is a list of 3d model sites from whom you can download, be mindfull of the copyrights of the authors.
Again have fun :)

.X is only a file format and can be used independently of DirectX.
The next version of BluffTitler (version 12) uses DirectX 11 and has no problems using X files.
Next versions of BluffTitler will support other 3D file formats, like for example COLLADA DAE, but in order to stay compatible will always support X files as well!

And be creative with .eps in blufftitler.
The master of .Eps is Vincent and he makes the most technical models, from eps and sketch formats.
And download my 10th blufftitler anniversary show:
The Cake, Cake plateau, saucer, knife, and piece of pie (building) are all made off rudimentary EPS shapes.
The same technics I used to make the Books, Bankerslamp and newton's cradle.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.
Looking forward to the release of BT12, checking everyday... can't wait!

Hi Michiel,
about a year ago you announced version12 of BT to be distributed with support for other 3D file formats. I'm currently using version 13.0.0.4 Ultimate and still no progress.
How about an answer to that?

We definitely have plans to support more 3D model formats. I think I meant not "the next version" but "a next version".
I still think DAE is a good choice, but others mention OBJ and FBX. What is your favorite 3D model format?
michiel, 7 years ago
For me 3DS should be great because there is a great choice of free 3DS models on web and it is supported by many 3D softwares. Thanks.

In principle I go along with Selina. But agree with Michiel that DAE and OBJ would be a good choice for the/a next version. Pse don't let us wait too long. You know: Life punishes those who delay (MG).

So, are there any new developments in additional 3D model formats?

Picking a 3D format isn't easy because there's not one that stands out.
My personal favorite is DAE, but DAE, OBJ, FBX, 3DS, MAX, GLB, FBX and 3MF are all requested equally.
What would be your format of choice?
michiel, 5 years ago
I'm not a full time CG artist and use specifically Blender as a source to bring in models from various sources so .BLEND would be nice but any that Blender exports.
