1- In Blender 3D, activate the Import-Export DirectX format in the addon tab of user Preferences.
2- Import a known format file in Blender (ex; 3DS)
3- Zoom the scene as to have a maximum size of the object
4- Export as DirectX.X file
5- In BluffTitler choose Add a model layer and import the DirectX.X file created in step 4
That's all and it works fine !

Doesn't always work fine Jeep35. Here's a quick example I messed up on purpose to show the flaw in that statement.

I do agree with you. All parts of the object have to be selected and sometimes it works, sometimes it does'nt, but when we pay attention to this fact, it should be OK (crossing the fingers !)

Hi Jean-Pierre,
A valid assumption, however I'll go with BillyJack on this one, as even models I have created when doing a complex modification have ended up accidentally having normals flipped and missing faces, causing issues.
The theory is sound, however the export in some programs to DirectX is flawed and requires several steps to correct rather than a single export which means you evade the problems before they happen.
Some models from the internet were designed without DirectX rendering in mind, and are impossible to import due to their complexity. If I make a model for artwork, I don't care about numbers of vertices or necessarily small errors because the software I use ignores that. However BluffTitler project models require a bit more attention to ensure they are correct.
I think the point here is that for a modelling newbie, particularly in Blender or if you are importing a model which is not of your own creation, the steps are worth checking to ensure a smooth import :)
So both points are indeed correct, but BillyJack's suggestion will make life a bit easier for those trying to figure out why their model doesn't render correctly in Bluff, and indeed preventing that happening in the first place :)
Regards
Bob

"Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll never go hungry again."
That is the mentality I had when I did my tutorial. BluffTitler does so many amazing things as a stand alone graphics tool, I didn't want to turn the gallery into a "How to model in Blender" forum. Still, when you pair 3D models with BluffTitler there is little your imagination can't accomplish. By doing the tutorial and showing the flaws, I thought it might make the experience of pairing the two a more pleasant one and inspire beginners to study the process a little more on the own.
The next tutorial is going cover materials and textures. SPOILER ALERT: One of thing I'm going to cover is setting the model's material to pure white so you have full control over its color in BluffTitler. Most people at first don't realize when you import a model into BluffTitler, you can only darken the R.G.B. so by setting the model's material to pure white ahead of time you have complete control over its colors in BluffTitler. The preset on the slides in BluffTitler that control color are maxed out at 255 by default, so if you import a black model, it's just going to be black unless you add an effect or a texture to it.
Things like that! :)

Thank you very much BillyJack and Pixelpanther for your warnings! Sure that it's not always so easy to import x files in BT, depending on the quality of the 3D model.
