vincent, PAT67, LostBoyz and 1 other like this!

Here is for download a nice juniperus tree made in Speedtree Cinema one of the most exciting software to build vegetation. It was used in many Hollywood productions such as Avatar.

It's a zip file containing the obj file plus all the neccessary textures.

Merci Vincent, il manquait effectivement un paquet de fichiers.

J'ai mis à jour le fichier à télécharger.

Super nice! But more than 2 million triangles for a single tree? It makes me wonder how much memory you need to render the full Avatar forest. And how much time it takes to load it. This detail obsession is getting out of hand....

As a comparison, on the left is your tree with 2.000.000 triangles that takes a minute to load.

On the right, a tree generated by TreeIt ( evolved-software.com... ) with 6000 triangles that takes a second to load. Bixelangelo ( outerspace-software.com... ) comes with a collection of such trees.

I think we need something in between 🤔

Yes Michiel that's all in the details of the bark, the leaves. I use also Treeit (free) but for very fine outputs I use Speedtree.
It is possible to choose the output quality in SpeedTree : High, Medium or Low and all models are provided in different resolutions.
In cinematic productions, most background trees are in low resolution as they do not need a high rendering, only foregrounds are in high res.
