I'm seeing some dark noise around around some keyed actors in a blufftitler project. The noise doesn't appear when I mount the uncompressed AVI with alpha on the editor, but when I bring it in BluffTitler it is there. Almost like a blured black outline around the actor. Is there a way to edge clip or change the alpha mode to dirty within blufftitler or something?
I think this is a sorting problem.
To keep the animation rendering in realtime BluffTitler does not sort the individual triangles (which is too expensive), but only the layers. Sorting problems can happen when you render small layers with transparent parts inside bigger layers.
The solution is the Z-BIAS property. With this property you can change the sorting order of the layers.

But what do you set the zbias to? Higher values means they get sorted quicker?

The Z-BIAS property changes the sorting order. It does not change the sorting speed.

I have a PNG image in BT that is being utilized in "3D Space" with a glowing particle layer behind it. As long as the particle layer is visible, the PNG image indicates having artifacts around the edges. These artifacts aren't resident in PhotoShop, nor do they show in BT when the particle layer is deselected. Adjusting the Z-Bias did nothing for me.
Why the artifacts? Is there anything that can be done to remove them?

Try applying the NotLightened_Additive.fx effect to the particles. Or NotLightened_NoZWrite.fx.
You can do this by pressing the CHANGE EFFECT... button after selecting the particle layer.

I had already applied the NotLightened_Addiditive, but it didn't help. Applying the NotLightened_NoZWrite caused the glow to turn into a black square??

Why didn't it help? Almost all of the particle presets use this effect.
Additive effects don't suffer from wrongly sorted polygons because addition is commutative (a+b=b+a)

"Sorting polygons" is way over my head. I changed the preset from golden glow to mist, which created a similar acceptable result, without the black jaggies around the image.
