NextPreviousHomeA Halo for Baby Jesus

I'm preparing a Christmas DVD using a picture of the nativity in the manger. I tried making a halo for the infant by attaching a golden-glow particle effect to a text layer consisting of a period (.) of font size zero. This produces a pulsing, golden aura that includes the whole head of the child. Trouble is, it looks more like a blinking traffic signal than a halo.

I've also tried circles to simulate a halo but 360 degrees of halo is too much -- the halo should really go from shoulder to shoulder, not entirely around the head.

Has anyone tried this? I'd be grateful for any ideas.

Thx, John

What kind of look are you trying to achieve? Just yesterday I was messing with particle effects on the letter "O". I needed a ring (halo) to be ablaze without too much pulsation. I resized the O to make it thin and truly circular then tilted it.

I think I mainly messed with the gravity direction and emmisions settings? Many different looks. Do you have pic of the scene? Not sure by shoulder to shoulder.

Thanks, Elect1, but I tried using circles and the letter O myself. It looked more like horse collar than a halo, so I dropped the idea. The top half of an annulus (see link) would work fine, but I don't know how to do that.

Thanks for the idea, though!

How about the letter "C" resized horizontally or vertically to need?

Or for more control, you could use a photo or vector editor to get the half halo on the sholders the way you want.

Depends on what programs you have to get a transparent background.

Good idea! I hadn't thought of the letter C. I've been trying it but can't get it to shimmer appropriately. It sends out particles in all directions instead of radiating a subdued glow. I can't seem to find a combination of parameters that will confine the glow to just the letter. (Any hints, Michiel?)

I use GIMP a little but am too inexperienced to make a usable halo with it. I'm sure that would work, though.

Cheers, John
