I am happy to announce that the next version of BluffTitler will feature displacement mapping.
Displacement mapping is an advanced version of bump mapping. With bump mapping only the lighting is adjusted to give the impression of bumps. With displacement mapping the mesh is adjusted which produces a much more realistic effect.
Here are a few screenshots of our experiments.
To make displacement mapping work you need dynamic tessellation.
Modern graphics cards can do this in hardware and DirectX 11 (used by the next version of BluffTitler) gives us access to this power:

Displacement is good for fur-effects. :-)))
I know this effect from the program Poser.
