NextPreviousHomeAGPVN: Light streak over the text layer: short question.

John (ProComGer) | 10 years ago | 16 comments | 3.8K views

Hello agpvn,

how did you create this light streak moving over the text: outerspace-software.com...

As far as I can see, you used "ReflectionMap_LightenedM.fx" with a second layer that includes the lightstreak. Am I right?

I've tried different fx so far, but I was unable to get your effect.

Could you give me some tips, please?

Thanks

John

John, if you have a question about a gallery show, use the comment form at the bottom of that show.

Please do not pollute this gallery by posting your questions all over the place. This is very confusing. I have trouble finding out which shows/effects you are refering to.

Remember that the artist receives a notification e-mail and your question is also visible in the latest comments trigger on the right side of the gallery home. So you do not have to worry it isn't noticed.

Hi Michiel,

sorry! I have already posted a question below the article without any answer. I thought a newer article might be read by agpvn. His article is a few years old.

Please excuse me! I don't want to pollute the gallery.

Thanks for the hint!

I posted my question 5 months ago below agpvn's article without any answer, so this here is a try to ask agpvn again or somebody who can help me with my issue.

I am sure, that it is easy to fix ?.

agpvn is a genius. I guess we will have to accept that some of his design tricks will always remain a secret.

Sure, he is!

? why don't I know how to to this?
I know how to get this effect in Blender, but BluffTitler is much faster and much better for title animations.

Don't you have any ideas for the glint, Michiel?
Textures don't work so good. What can I do?

I need this glint animation for the final text animation of a business presentation on Friday. Otherwise, I'll have to use Blender for the final animation.

Thanks so far Michiel!

I hope that I don't get on your nerves with my bunch of requests.
If it is too much, then please tell me.

BluffTitler is amazing and really easy, but sometimes I get stuck in some functions I know from Blender since I was using Blender for a few years before I luckily discovered BluffTitler through a Google research.

I think I would place the point light close to the text and animate the POSITION property of the light layer.

If that does not look exiting enough I will try creating a reflectionmap containing a light streak and animating the FX REFLECTION ROTATION property of the ReflectionMap_LightenedM.fx effect.

Or I would try simulating a tube light by using multiple lights:

Thank you very, very much Michiel!

I'll try all your ideas and I will upload them later.

Hi Michiel,

I've tested now everything: 1drv.ms....

► Your first idea is what I've already tested, but that's not really a glint effect.
► I have tried to fulfil the second idea, but it doesn't really work: 1drv.ms.... Maybe I've done something wrong?
► Your third idea only works without any effect applied as far as I can see, but my text needs to have the ReflectionMap_LightenedM.fx effect applied. In agpvn's video it also looks like he used ReflectionMap_LightenedM.fx effect with the glint.
In your example "outerspace-software.com..." is no effect applied.

Thanks for your effort!

If this works, I am very happy and I can finish the case for Friday!

All the best

John

Hi Michiel,

I am now VERY CLOSE to what I want.

You are to 100 % right: A glint is the result of a moving light, but because BluffTitler doesn't have a light tube, it is not easy to create a glint that is often used in commercials or in agpvn's video.

So I decided to use a reflectionmap: 1drv.ms...

The glint effect works fine, but my text is transparent now and the glint is not white, rather grey. I've tried two reflectionmaps (both are included in the zip file).

Can you please help me to get the text gray with a white glint moving?
Could the text have another reflectionmap that is silver and the other reflectionmap containing the glint moving over it?
How can I adjust the size of the reflectionmap?

Thank you very much. I hope to get it ready for tomorrow in the afternoon.

That's the way I would do this in Blender:

I'm totally confused now. These GUI screenshots make me dizzy.

Here's an effect that automates everything for you. Click on the DOWNLOAD MEDIA FILES button at the top of this article.

I do not want to drive you crazy!
These were just screenshots of Blender.

I've been using the program for years, so do not worry!
Now everything works perfectly with BluffTitler.
